Casuarina glauca Prostrate
Shagpile

Shagpile is a selected form of Casuarina glauca Prostrate with a cascading ground cover habit making this plant suitable for any garden that requires low plantings.

POSITION: Grows best in full sun in open areas and is adaptable to most well drained soils. This ground cover is also excellent to use in coastal gardens.

CONDITIONS: Soil pH: 4.5 to 7.0

Soil preparation: Soil can range from quite acid to alkaline in pH levels, it is important to have good soil preparation to gain the best results when planting natives. This improves the water-holding capacity of the soil and for young plants, once established, will have lower water requirements.

Soil is classified into three groups -

CARE: This very hardy compact ground cover requires little maintenance. It is best to initially feed with a slow release low phosphorus fertilizer to help establish the plant when first planted. Mulching around the base of the plant will help retain moisture and suppress weeds.

USES: Shagpile is an attractive compact ground cover that is the perfect choice for low borders. Shagpile's soft grey/green stringy-like foliage provides contrast in the garden making it an extremely versatile plant for landscape design.
